  • Premier Power Welder/ R2.8 alternator

I sent my R2.8 alternator off to premier power welder to have them rework it so my welder will work. My question is that there was a plug from the cummins wiring harness that plugged into the alternator before it was modified, what does this wire do? Does it need to be hooked to anything?

Premier told me the wire is to trigger the alternator, but itsn't required with the welder so it will get taped up out of the way.

Usually that is the wire that provides power to energize the field coil.

So, I should be able to use it to supply keyed 12v+ to my reworked alternator?

You should be able to. I would probe it out first to make sure. There are wiring diagrams on the Cummins service website, which you can access.
