I have a brand new optima red top, 800 cca but it's only a 50 amp hr battery and I'm thinking that's my issue. Battery seems weak for this motor and I keep getting a P2509 code which is ECM/PCM Power Input Signal Intermittent

I think that on start the battery is dropping below voltage that the ECM would like to see and giving me this code. I am NOT and expert so any ideas are greatly appreciated

The battery is not your problem. I have the same one, and even with an old weak Optima, it cranked fine and had no errors. I would look at your battery cables and grounds. I'm running 2/0 battery cables because I needed to cross the engine compartment for the starter and running a winch. Any poor connections, thin cables, or poor grounds will cause significant voltage drop at high cranking amperages.

I agree with Digger. I think I got this code, when I found my main connection had come loose between the firewall and tub.

On the topic of battery, I suggest more battery and personally I should have just gone with 2 batteries but instead I just used basically this battery, but I got it from batteries plus

I don't like dual purpose batteries, but it was the only 1 they had that matched the Cummins spec. Though imo 2 starting batteries is the way to go. Of course with my experience with diesels and higher load stuff, I just want lots of battery. My preference, unless I go with Li is to retire this to the AUX battery position and when it goes out I'll probably grab a Li to replace it.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'll take a look at my cables and connections and see how that goes.
